South Asian University was set up in 2010 by 8 South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) nations (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka).
On July 19 2024, the University met to discuss the creation of a dedicated Centre on climate change, the green transition, and sustainability. The Centre will be interdisciplinary, aims to fill a gap in the integrated regional approach, while considering the South Asian identity and therefore local/ regional topics on sustainability.
