As a public-spirited university, Melbourne is committed to promoting sustainability through its research and education programs. Universities have a special role and responsibility in confronting the challenges of climate change and environmental stewardship. The University of Melbourne is dedicated to confronting these challenges both through research and by translating best practice into action on campus. Operationally, the University is taking steps to substantially reduce its environmental impact. Melbourne aims to establish itself as a model of sustainability. It has set a target to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.
