Dissertation Project: The Teaching and Learning System in Environmental Education for Sustainable Development

The dissertation project at Eqrem Çabej University of Gjirokastra focuses on advancing environmental education for sustainable development as part of the global commitment to the SDGs. Grounded in the field of Human and Regional Geography, it seeks to build a scientific foundation and data framework to assess indicators, identify gaps, and inform future policies that support sustainability-focused education.

Combining quantitative and qualitative methods, the study aims to explore how teachers and students perceive and engage with biodiversity, climate change, and sustainability concepts. It emphasizes developing innovative curricula and teaching methods that foster critical thinking, action competence, and responsible citizenship among learners.

By strengthening interdisciplinary research, fostering collaborative social-environmental learning, and engaging cross-border communities (notably the Gjirokastër–Ioannina region), the project aims to embed sustainability values in education systems. Its outcomes will include a comprehensive database, scientific publications, conference participation, and policy recommendations, contributing to a culture of sustainability in education, research, and community practice.
