PATTERN - Promoting a Culture of Care in Academia
PATTERN is an awareness campaign from the Culture of Care initiative, a collaboration between Koç University and UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology. It tackles bullying, harassment, and harmful behaviours in academic environments, aiming to replace dismissive attitudes with a genuine culture of care.
Grounded in 2024 research with academics, researchers, staff, and PhD students, PATTERN highlights common issues such as abuse of power, exclusion, microaggressions, and excessive work pressure - and their impacts on mental health, workplace culture, and career progression.
The campaign turns these insights into action through visual materials, workshops, events, and guidance on seeking support. Free resources are available for universities and organizations worldwide to raise awareness, promote respect, and foster accountability.
